Reconnecting Your Account

How to fix a disconnected bank account and restore transaction syncing

2 min readLast updated: 2026-01-11

Why Accounts Disconnect

Bank connections can break for several reasons:

  • Changed your bank password — Most common cause
  • Enabled new security features — Like 2FA or security questions
  • Bank updated their systems — Sometimes requires re-authentication
  • Connection expired — Some banks require periodic re-verification
  • Bank blocked the connection — Rare, but happens

How to Reconnect

When an account needs reconnection, you'll see an alert in OneBudget.

Step-by-Step

  1. Go to SettingsAccounts
  2. Find the account with the warning icon
  3. Tap Reconnect
  4. Sign in with your current bank credentials
  5. Complete any 2FA or security steps
  6. Wait for sync to complete

Your transaction history will remain intact—reconnecting just restores the live connection.

"My Bank Password Changed"

If you recently changed your bank password:

  1. Reconnect using your new password
  2. The old connection will be replaced
  3. Your data and categories are preserved

"I Enabled 2FA"

Two-factor authentication is great for security! But it may require reconnection:

  1. Start the reconnect process
  2. Enter your username and password
  3. Complete the 2FA step (text code, app code, etc.)
  4. Connection is re-established

Some banks with strong 2FA may need reconnection more frequently.

"Reconnection Keeps Failing"

If you can't reconnect after multiple tries:

Check Your Bank's Website

  1. Log into your bank directly
  2. Make sure your account is in good standing
  3. Clear any security alerts or locked status
  4. Try reconnecting in OneBudget again

Wait and Retry

Sometimes bank systems have temporary issues:

  1. Wait a few hours
  2. Try reconnecting again
