Why Connect Your Bank?

Connecting your bank accounts allows OneBudget to automatically import your transactions, detect your income, and calculate your safe-to-spend amount. No manual entry required.

How It Works

OneBudget uses Plaid, a trusted financial data platform used by thousands of apps including Venmo, Robinhood, and Coinbase. When you connect your bank:

  1. You're redirected to Plaid's secure login
  2. You sign in with your bank credentials
  3. Plaid securely shares your transaction data with OneBudget
  4. Your credentials are never stored by OneBudget

Step-by-Step Connection

  1. Go to SettingsAccounts
  2. Tap Add Account
  3. Search for your bank or credit union
  4. Sign in with your online banking credentials
  5. Select which accounts to connect (checking, savings, credit cards)
  6. Wait for the initial sync (usually under a minute)

What Accounts Should I Connect?

For the best experience, connect:

  • Your main checking account — Where your income arrives
  • Credit cards — To track spending accurately
  • Savings accounts — Optional, for a complete financial picture

You don't need to connect:

  • Investment accounts (unless you want to track transfers)
  • Accounts you rarely use
  • Joint accounts you don't manage
